this is my favorite show, because this is my show

Right when games I want to play are finally coming out for the Wii, it dies on me.

In the middle of some Monster Hunter Tri with Timnuts and Kevin, it just stopped reading discs. Wii discs, Gamecube discs, magical discs full of miracles, everything. That’s not what even pissed me off the most, it’s that the “repair” service costs EIGHTY FIVE DOLLARS. That’s pretty much half of what it costs to get a brand new Wii off the fucking shelf.

I’ve owned every main Nintendo system and handheld; none of them have broken. The old NES still boots up if you blow in it and smack the bitch just right. The old GameBoy still works, even though it kills batteries like a serial rapist would kill coeds at senior skip day. And everything newer is still rockin’ without a hitch.

I’m calling Nintendo on Monday, before I send this thing off, and am gonna basically beg and plead that they knock off some of the cost or send me free stuff or something. I have the Platinum Club Nintendo member status from last year. I’m a lifelong supporter of them. The least they can do is hook me up with some swag, right?

  1. Console suicide is a huge problem for this generation – I guess they just don’t make ‘em like they used to! Here’s a tip, though: they will give in! My 360 suffered the fatal RROD last year and it was out of warranty; many strongly worded letters to Microsoft about the “Sales of Goods Act”, how the fault was a generic hardware error and not down to misuse, and voila – a brand spanking new console for free. Persistence is the key!

    • Nice. Thanks for the boost there… I’ll be calling them before I ship it Monday/Tuesday. I’ve always found their customer service lines to be pretty helpful and friendly, so here’s hoping I get it fixed free!!!

  2. Yeah, that seriously sucks: normally Nintendo is known for having reliable, if not impressive, hardware. I suppose it’s just probability one of your consoles would suffer a critical error and happened to be from the most recent generation. Good luck on getting it repaired/replaced.

  3. Seems like you’re thinking positive, Mark. It’s good that you’re keeping an upbeat attitude because I know how aggravating busted technology can be – here’s hoping it gets fixed soon!

  4. I managed to blow up two 360s in one day once. The moral of that story is don’t trust cable splitters you buy from a bargain shop!

  5. You’re the first broken Wii owner I’ve ever heard of :(

  6. avatar boy, i'll tell you what

fix that thing up so that it reads from a usb harddrive…all you gotta do is search

“run Wii games off a usb harddrive”

it don’t matter if you’re one of those piracy prudes, there till the end for your corporate buddies, whatever, you can buy a copy of a game, and then upload said version yourself privately and put it on the harddrive. costs are pretty great right now. 70 dollars or so for half or near a terabyte of space, that’s 1000 gb.
I don’t have a Wii myself, but I’ve been looking into this…plus various deals that knock down the price even more, like the one at Walmart now for 200 you get a new Wii and a new game like New Mario Wii or something of it’s caliber…then you can sell that sucker and get a harddrive…

    arrrrhahahahahahahahaahhahahahahah

    peace, son.

  7. Maybe it killed itself because you drew a face on it?

  8. I would forgo the “begging and pleading” and go straight to cursing and threatening. It’s always worked best for me.
