Oh, looky! Amazon has a sale on Deadly Premonition right now… it’s just $15 instead of $20. At either price it’s a freaking steal though. So I would click away and get that game shipped your way asap.
I’m in love with the game and I won’t deny that at all. I’m about 13 hours into it and haven’t had time to really sit down and play for a while, but when I have the time I love every second of it. Just as a note, I play on Easy because the gameplay is about on par with a PSone survival-horror game and the early PS2 graphics don’t help. But really, niether bother me since Easy mode makes it playable without being super frustrating.
I firmly believe there are three, and only three, reactions to Deadly Premonition: utter hatred, complete meh, or undying love (or, in reviewer terms, a one, five, or a ten). I think that anything other than one of those scores is the reviewer letting their brains convince them that some parts are better/worse because others could enjoy it more/less than they did. But, this game is all about that gut reaction you get from it.
This isn’t just a “so bad it’s good” game though… it doesn’t take itself completely seriously, there is awkward humor, the character models and facial expressions add to the hilarity and personalities, the story hinges on the player being part of the game and the fourth wall isn’t really broken, as much as just placed behind you… in short: it’s something you should probably play. And for $15, you’ll get a long game with a lot to do. For my money, this is worth way more than Heavy Rain and does just about everything better as well.
Oh, and if you’re wondering what else you could possibly buy to get free shipping, might I suggest some MSpoints? It might be a bit more than $10 worth of a purchase, but you’ll always end up using them, it’ll come with your game, and it won’t slow down the delivery at all since Amazon probably just has them lying all over their warehouse.
So go and do that. And expect a feature about Deadly Premonition from me in the somewhat near future.
I have to admit, I’m very curious about this. It’s one of the most polarizing games I’ve ever seen. I look forward to the feature.
It might be a while, Michael. As I mentioned I’ve got a ways to go still… but it’ll definitely happen. And by the time it does, the game will probably be like $5 new.
